Desmond Does Durban

Our favourite heathen, Russel Smith, returns to gigs and writing reviews for us, bands and ladies beware. He kicks off his return with a few choice words on Desmond and The Tutus recent gig at Live.     Having been out the of the loop on the live music front for a spell, it was a bittersweet reunion to find myself surrounded by familiar sweaty bodies and some new ones all eagerly anticipating the evening’s bill of entertainment at... Read More

Taxi Violence, Relationship Sex and Poppers

DJ Fuego Heat kicks the year off by catching new comers The Pie Keys, stalwarts City Bowl Mizers and visitors Taxi Violence at Live. It’s mostly posi. Mostly. And there’s talk of sex and poppers.     “Can you cover the gig tomorrow night? We have no one else to do it”. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the charm of Bob Perfect, and how Saturday night saw me heading to Live to check out The Pie Keys, City Bowl Mizers and Taxi... Read More

Top 10 of 2012: Skullboy

This year skullboy pushed it to the limit, organising monthly exhibitions at The Upstairs, getting his You & Me exhibition in the KZNSA and he even wrote a bit for us. He barely mentions any of this in his Top 10 of 2012.     2012 was across the board one hell of a year in my opinion. She was the best of times and the worst of times. Parts of me hopes sincerely that She’ll pass out in the alley next to the Winston and I’ll watch... Read More

The Brother Moves On ETA Launch

The Brother Moves On have spent this year making a name for themselves, so naturally, only about five people in Durban have heard of them. They recently braved the trip down to the 031 to launch their ETA EP at Live with Fruits & Veggies and Car Boot Vendors joining them on the bill. They made an impact on the crowd that was there and our new guy Msizi Sithole, who lets you know his thoughts on the show after the jump.     “The Brother... Read More

Cowabunga Bitches!

Last Friday saw Live playing host to three touring bands from different parts of the country, two relatively new bands, The Dollfins, Beach Party and the more experienced Wrestlerish, with City Bowl Mizers being the home team for the night. Eliza Day shares her experiences of the night.   This past weekend was a biggie for us Durban cats. With so much on the dance card, people were in a frenzy of anticipation on social media. There was talk... Read More

Piece by Piece

ISO recently returned to Live to release their latest album, Piece by Piece, with instrumental sludge metal band STRAGE and the indie popsters Asleep In Transit sharing the bill. It was a weird one. Bob Perfect reviews the show.   It felt good to be back at Live for ISO’s Piece by Piece album launch. With the “new” and improved Winston re-opening the previous week, and Live moving forward despite their rather messy, confusing and long... Read More
